Frequently Asked Questions(3)
What does a boiler plant audit measure?
Flue gas composition and temperature to establish combustion and stack loss, blowdown rate, condensate return percentage, surface and insulation losses, and the actual steam-to-fuel ratio against the rated one. The output is a ranked list of what is costing money, with the measurement behind each item.
How is steam cost per tonne calculated?
From fuel calorific value and price, boiler efficiency, feedwater temperature and blowdown rate. Our free steam cost calculator does this from your own figures, and the audit's job is to replace the assumed inputs with measured ones — which is usually where the surprise is.
Is an audit worth it on a plant that seems to run well?
Often, because the losses that matter are invisible from the control panel. A boiler holding pressure reliably can still be running excess air well above optimum, returning no condensate, or blowing down continuously at several times the rate its water chemistry requires. None of that shows up until it is measured.
