How much steam does a rice mill need per tonne of paddy?
For a full parboiling line — soaking, steaming and drying — published cluster data puts it at roughly 700 to 1,300 kg of steam per tonne of paddy, with about 1,000 kg typical. Paddy drying alone is far lower, around 350 to 450 kg per tonne. A 4 TPH parboiled mill therefore draws in the region of 4,000 kg/h of process steam.
Can rice husk fuel the boiler for the whole mill?
In most parboiling mills, yes — the husk generated by milling is usually enough to raise the steam the process needs, which is why husk firing is close to universal in the sector. The design allowance that matters is husk ash: it is high in silica, abrasive, and fouls heat transfer surfaces, so gas velocities and soot blowing are specified accordingly.
What steam pressure does parboiling need?
The process itself works at around 2 to 3.5 kg/cm²(g), roughly 110 °C at the point of use. The boiler is specified above that to cover distribution losses and give the pressure reducing stations something to work with.
