How much steam does a food processing plant need?
It depends entirely on the product line, and the spread is enormous. Measured dairy data puts liquid milk pasteurisation at about 14.6 kg of steam per tonne of milk, while paneer runs around 817 kg per tonne of product and mozzarella around 872 — a factor of sixty across one plant. Size on your actual product mix, never on an industry average.
What boiler is used in the food industry?
A packaged steam boiler on oil, gas or a solid fuel, sized on the peak simultaneous cooking, sterilisation and clean-in-place load. Where the duty is hot water rather than steam — washdown, CIP, space heating — a hot water generator does the same job without bringing the plant under boiler regulations.
How do seasonal production swings affect boiler choice?
They argue for two smaller boilers instead of one large one. A boiler running at a fraction of its rating cycles more, loses more up the stack and wears its controls faster. Splitting the capacity lets you shut one down out of season and still hold efficiency on the other.
