Work it out for your plant

We do not yet publish consumption benchmarks for this sector, so start from your heat load or a steam figure you already know — the calculators take either.

Or read the background in the Knowledge Hub, which covers boiler operations, steam distribution, condensate management and the regulatory position.

Already running a plant? Our lifecycle services cover installation and commissioning, boiler AMC, retrofits, plant audits, spare parts and operator training — on equipment from any manufacturer.

Frequently Asked Questions(3)

What steam pressure does a distillery need?
Mashing and distillation typically want low-pressure steam at the process, but the boiler is specified higher to allow for distribution losses and pressure reduction at each user. The sizing question that matters more is the peak: distillation draws heavily in bursts, so a boiler sized on average demand will not hold pressure through a cycle.
Can distillery spent wash be used as boiler fuel?
Yes — that is what a slop fired boiler does. Spent wash is concentrated to a syrup with a usable calorific value and fired, usually with a supporting fuel. It turns an effluent disposal cost into fuel, but the ash is very high in potassium and chloride, so the furnace, heat transfer surfaces and soot blowing are designed specifically around that.
What is the advantage of a biomass boiler for a brewery?
Spent grain and local agro-residue are already on site or nearby, so fuel cost falls and the carbon position improves. The trade-off is a physically larger boiler and more fuel handling for the same steam output, because biomass carries more moisture and less energy per kilogram than coal.
